We're about to launch the new re-design of the Sun Sentinel and now we're facing Tropical Storm Fay possibly hitting South Florida as a tropical storm or hurricane. Not very good timing, but a great news story.
Sun-Sentinel.com reports that the initial forecast puts us (South Florida) in the path of the storm, although the projected path --- that can drastically change -- points it toward the Keys and into the Gulf of Mexico.
Tropical Storm Fay Stats as of 5pm according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami-Dade County:
- 35 miles east of Santo Domingo
- 850 miles southeast of Miami
- moving west-northwest at 14 mph
- sustained winds of about 40 mph
- tropical force winds extended 85 miles from its center
- system could produce up to 12 inches of rain along its path
